How I prevent burnout as a creator...

In today's issue I'm going to teach you how to avoid burn

Even for the most passionate of creators, burnout can can be problematic.

According to Justin Welsh: Burnout doesn't happen because you are tired, but due to to a lack of control of what's going on.

Mid last year I nearly burned out and was ready to quit creating all together.

Between my 9-5, writing, posting, podcasting and client work it was too much.

I can honestly say that I wasn't tired.

I just felt like I didn't have time to do what I needed and if I elected to do something then that was a vote against something else that I needed to get done.

Ultimately, I had to cut a few things.

I decided to temporarily give up podcasting to go all in on my newsletter.

I gave up on my agency style business to focus on building my personal brand.

Most recently I went from posting on Instagram, LinkedIn, and X to just posting on X.

These days I don't feel tugged in multiple directions.

By doing things that I need to do, I don't feel like I'm missing out on other important tasks.

Since I cut out alot, I have less I that I have to control.

If you're feeling burnt out or want to prevent it, here are a few ways to combat it.

Recognize the Signs Early

Some early signs of burnout:

  • Less passion.
  • Increased stress.
  • Decline in creativity.

Paying attention to these signs can mean the difference between having everything under control and reaching a breaking point.

By recognizing the signs early you can do things like adjusting your workload that can help take the strain off.

Set Clear Boundaries

If you want a healthy balance you need to made clear boundaries between work and personal time.

Learn to say no to additional commitments.

When you don't, you are just constantly adding to your plate.

This will also help with energy levels and prevent blurring lines between work and personal.

Cut Out What You Don't Need

This single-handedly helped me get back on track when I burned out.

Sometimes you need to take an inventory of all you are doing.

Cut out things you know you can get back to.

For me that was podcasting and socials.

This will help you focus on more important things and lighten the load of what you need to do.

In closing, the last thing you want to do is lose creativity because you are burned out.

Use these techniques and build a creative practice that feels sustainable, joyful, and fulfilling.

Also only a few spots are left for my coaching calls.

It'll be half off until the end of the month.

After that the price goes up.

If you are struggling as a creator let's chat.

Til next week,

Ken
